Scribe certification

Two parts, both free. First a written part on this page: read three lines, write two and gloss three. Then your handwriting, sent to a certified scribe.

The written part has no clock and you can take it as often as you like. The handwriting is read by a person, who replies within seven nights.

When both parts pass you are certified as a Scribe, and you may review other people’s tattoo designs and handwriting.

You can take the exam signed out for practice. To be certified, sign in first: a certificate needs an account.

Your handwriting

  • Write the passage below by hand, in the book hand, with a broad nib if you have one and any pen if you do not. The practice sheet in Row 6 has the ruled lines.
  • Photograph or scan it and send it here as a picture (PNG, JPEG or WebP) or a PDF, up to 5 MB.
  • A certified scribe checks that every sign can be read and is properly formed: two dots stay two, the bar is wider than the bowl, marks sit on the bit line. They reply within seven nights.
  • Only scribes reviewing your work, and the two people who run the site, can see the picture. It is deleted when you delete your account, or sooner if you ask.
The passage

Som ka retu. Ka. Somnu kiri. Rinu ri. Nu kha ri tin. Tatan se kora tu. Ti, nes, rum, kas, mot, nir, khi.
