The Wardens

This page is outside the story. Wardens are real people who help look after the community. They are chosen by lot, not by votes or popularity, so there are no campaigns and no inner circle.

  • Seven Wardens, one for each Door, for one year.
  • Paid for their meeting and training hours at the London Living Wage or the local equivalent.
  • 18 or over, an account in good standing, and the short training below.
  • Wardens sit on second-stage appeal panels and advise on rule changes. They never moderate alone, never see anyone’s private journal, and never speak for the fandom.
  • Wardens declare any paid deals they have as creators.

Serving now

No Wardens are serving yet. The first draw is in January 2027.

How the draw works

Entries close a week before the draw. When they close we publish a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) of the list of entries for each Door, and the number of a future round of a public randomness beacon (drand).

When that round arrives, its random value picks one entry per Door, by a method anyone can run again. The code and the list of anonymous entry numbers are published here, so you can check the draw yourself.

Nothing is paid to enter and nothing can be bought to improve your chances.

Checking a draw yourself
  1. Take the list of entry numbers for a Door, remove duplicates and sort them. Join them with a new line between each; the SHA-256 of that text must equal the published commitment.
  2. Take the published randomness of the drand round (League of Entropy mainnet). For counter 0, 1, 2…, compute SHA-256 of “randomness:counter” and read it as eight 32-bit big-endian numbers: that is the stream.
  3. Shuffle the sorted list with Fisher–Yates from the front: for position 0, pick an index from 0 to n−1 using the next number in the stream (numbers at or above the largest multiple of n below 2³² are skipped, so every index is equally likely). The entry that lands in position 0 is the Warden.
